Introduction to Spring Toggle
A spring toggle, also known as a toggle bolt or butterfly anchor, is a versatile fastener designed to secure heavy objects to hollow or fragile surfaces like drywall, plaster, or hollow doors. Its unique structure ensures strong grip in materials where traditional screws might pull out.
The device consists of a threaded bolt, a spring-loaded toggle wing mechanism, and a washer or nut. When inserted through a pre-drilled hole, the toggle wings-compressed during insertion-spring open behind the surface, creating a wide anchor point. Tightening the bolt draws the wings against the inner surface, distributing weight evenly to prevent slipping.
Installation is straightforward: drill a hole slightly larger than the toggle's closed width, insert the toggle (with wings folded), and tighten the bolt until secure. Common materials include steel (for strength) and zinc plating (to resist corrosion).
Spring toggles are ideal for mounting shelves, mirrors, light fixtures, or electrical boxes on hollow walls. They offer high load capacity-ranging from 10 to 50 kg depending on size-making them indispensable for home improvement, commercial renovations, and DIY projects where reliable anchoring is critical.
